In my Chemistry class we were assigned a project, the project asked us to think of an improvement we could make on a product that we are fond of or use a lot. I chose to improve the fabric that is currently being used in TOM's Shoes. I chose to replace the fabric with Bamboo cloth, then listed the many benefits to the cloth.
In my letter to TOM's Shoes i feel that the strengths would be very clear that the bamboo cloth would be an improvement to the shoe. I give a lot of examples of how the cloth reacts with the skin and does not cause allergic reactions. If i were to have more time for this letter i would have included the chemical formulas for each fabric.
During this project i learned a lot about how to set up a professional letter. I also learned a lot about a material that i have never heard of or even thought was possible. I learned about bamboo cloth, it can be made into many diffrenet things. I learned that the cloth can absorb moisture from the skin, it is antibacterial and does not cause allergic reations. I also learned that TOM's shoe company is an eco friendly shoe manufactorer, its material is currently made out of hemp and recycled plastic.

Dear Toms Shoe Company,
My name is Angela Myers and I am a student at Animas High School in Durango Colorado. In my chemistry class I have been assigned a project. The project is based on a product we would want to improve. Since I’m a fan of Toms Shoes I decided to research a new material that can replace the one that is already being used in the shoe.
The idea of the shoe is to keep it echo friendly, there are many different types of materials used for making different styles of TOMS Shoes but it is mainly made out of Hemp and recycled plastic. I researched other fibers that could bring more benefits to the shoe but are also echo friendly. In my research I came up with Bamboo cloth, Bamboo fabric has been growing in popularity, because it has many unique properties and is more sustainable than most fibers. It requires very little water to grow and it grows rapidly. Another benefit to the fiber is that many people, who experience allergic reactions to materials like hemp, do not experience it in Bamboo fiber. It is even antibacterial to a certain extent. It makes for great cloth and is 100% biodegradable. Bamboo is highly water absorbent so it absorbs moisture from your skin making it nice to wear during summer time, when the temperature rises.
Consider making your shoes out of Bamboo cloth because from my research the cloth has many more benefits then what is already being used to make TOMS shoes. Not only is it echo friendly but bamboo fiber absorbs moisture very well, is antibacterial and is a very sustainable fiber. This is great for your health and skin. The cloth is also perfect for all year round to keep you cool or warm depending the season. The Bamboo cloth would be a great improvement to Toms Shoes. Something that i am proud of in my chemistry class would be some of the labs that i've done, some of the labs that i am proud of are the bonding labs. I found my notes very helpful and it helped me understand how to get my results. I did well on the lab and hope to do well on labs in the future.
